Dental Deception? I think Not!

Dental Deception? I think Not!

We are so fortunate in most parts of Canada to have access to dental care. Yes, it is expensive and no our publicly funded health care system does not include dental care. But to be able to access a Dentist when in pain is so important.

For some reason teeth and oral health is not valued as much as overall health or other health matters of the body. Sometimes it is a lack of understanding of the importance of keeping teeth healthy.

We often hear from individuals how dentists are trying scam or upsell you products. But did you know that Dentists, Dental Hygienists and Dental assistants are all upheld to high ethical standards from their presiding colleges. The majority of dentists act in accordance to their expected regulations from their governing board. I say the ‘majority’ because of course there will always be a few that don’t follow all of the rules and regulations. The same thing occurs within the medical field with doctors. Most MDs will follow all of the rules and regulations, including those regarding billing but sometimes there is one individual that does not.  When the governing boards of either the dentist or the medical doctors discover this then that individual is reprimanded. Sometimes that means losing a license, other times it is paying a fine or taking a course to meet current standards. Dentists are trained professionals that are not trying to take advantage of you. They are small business owners that have undergone extensive medical training. They also employ several employees to help complete the everyday functions in a dental office.

While a lot of dentistry is reparative, sometimes cosmetic procedures are offered or suggested to a patient. It is done to help improve the individuals smile, confidence and often the recommendations can also help with the overall health of the teeth. So please understand we care about you and your teeth. We look forward to working with you and helping to reach your dental goals.
